Suicide Food

What is Suicide Food? “Suicide Food is any depiction of animals that act as though they wish to be consumed. Suicide Food actively participates in or celebrates its own demise. Suicide Food identifies with the oppressor. Suicide Food is a bellwether of our decadent society. Suicide Food says, “Hey! Come on! Eating meat is without any ethical ramifications! See, Mr. Greenjeans? The animals aren’t complaining! So what’s your problem?”

And so Ben keeps collecting" atrocious logos, gross signs and emetic doodles to entertain us. Thank you Ben! (And thank you, Xin, for pointing me there)

Saturday Night Fever

Are you about to go out clubbing, but still unsure as to which moves to put on to impress your companions?

Let me submit ‘The Mario’ for your consideration – you might still have enough time to learn it, and will definitely be the talk of the club with this dance.

The dance consists of three main motions:

1. Swing your arms from side to side
2. Take one step
3. And then again
(There are different schools of thought as to whether step three applies to step two only, or steps two and one.)

As the instructive video linked above demonstrates, the rest is ad-libbed. The final part, where you stumble and almost fall flat on your face, is optional. Have fun.

Draw a pig

Personality tests of doubtful accuracy are around at every second corner of the Internet (pr0n being at all the other corners) – but this one at least comes with a fun activity component: you get to draw a pig. (OK, fun by my standards – go ahead, tell me I need to get a life.)

My piggy (pig-tured above) got me the following assessment:
According to the test, I am a realist, believe in tradition, am friendly, remember dates, am emotional and naive, care little for details and am a risk-taker. I am also secure, stubborn and stick to my ideals. I am a good listener and have an average sex-life.
I’d say that’s, all in all, about 50 % on target – about par for an online personality test.

My object all sublime...

I’m not really a heavy supporter of light opera, but what impresses me about that clip – of Gidon Saks in the title role of Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘The Mikado’ at Stratford in 1982 – is, for lack of a better word, the incredible voice acting.

Akira Mizorogi's Paperworks

Japanese love building stuff from paper, and most Japanese companies offer free paper models of something or other on their websites. Many of those models are amazingly naturalistic and intricately detailed – and correspondingly difficult to build.

Honda Motors takes another approach, however: Akira Mizorogi’s paper models bear only a crude resemblance to the real thing, but they have lots of charm. The instructions are in Japanese, of course, but completely superfluous to begin with – the models are so simple that there is just no way to get them wrong.

Feel free to click around when you are there – there are other nifty things around, including a few Flash (actually mostly Shockwave) games. Just be careful not to order a new car by accident…

....but don’t worry if you do, they’re supposed to be good cars.

Hamster Craters

Well, actually, the game’s name is ‘Flight of the Hamsters’, but I like to think that my title suggestion does a much better job of capturing this game’s unique appeal.

The game relies heavily on an old and proven combination of attractors: Rodents, high speed impacts, and Richard Wagner’s ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ – but it gets the mixture just about right.

Suitable for children, although those children that have access to real life rodents should be advised on the differences between real life and computer games, if not yet aware of them.

Especially suitable for Calvinists, since the game’s author seems to have had a firm belief in predestination: Immediately after landing, each of the hamster draws out a sign already emblazoned with the distance he just traveled.
