Well – when I found Helena’s website “Ziegfield Follies” with hundred of photos of the famous theatrical spectaculars I wanted to rave about the modern, bulimic ideal of beauty. I really perceive this as repugnant and as a great problem for young girls. It is difficult enough growing up in a world of eternal puberty anyway. And I like women who have breasts and hips – do you remember those?
But: The Ziegfield Follies were dancers and lithe and lissom. And the modern woman of the ‘Roaring Twenties’ was almost as anorexic as Paris Hilton.
And: The erotic language in these wonderful photographic documents is the lingo of subjection and weakness. ‘I am a sexy It girl, but I need protection. Sigh‘
Breasts? Check. Hips? Check. But self-confident and on a par, please!
