...was my favorite tv series back when I was a boy. It was a very entertaining and laid-back western with witty dialogs. Clearly it was “inspired” by the success of “Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid” and a great success until one of the actors, Pete Duel, who played safe cracker Hannibal Heyes took his life and was replaced with Roger Davis. It’s impossible to properly explain how we, the little fan-boys, were shocked when this happened. But imagine you are 13 years old and you’re watching “Star Wars” for the first time. Unexpectedly – in the middle of the film – Harrison Ford is replaced with Ed O’Neill!
While I go searching for a paper bag to breathe into, here are the links: Carolyn and many other contributors collected everything the could find about “Alias Smith and Jones” here, you can watch the intro of the show on YouTube and read an interesting article about Pete’s suicide here. The show is not available on DVD, but there’s one good book about it.
