In its search for a killer application Apple created a competition: “My Dream App“! Hundreds of users and leading people of the software industry like Kevin Rose,Guy Kawasaki, David Pogue and Steve Wozniak (the usual suspects) helped in creating and developing this masterpiece of software. And the winner is: Atmosphere!
It’s best described as a screensaver/wallpaper displaying a landscape you can create and influence under the current – data gets downloaded – weather conditions . It shows a weather forecast for seven days too and you can have a look what’s the weather like in London, Seattle or Oslo (Rainy, I presume.) – but it’s main feature is showing the actual weather on your laptop! That’s so cool: Now you never have to get in contact with the real world to check what the weather is like! Just take a look at your wallpaper!
A little suggestion for improvement from me: Atmosphere is a registered trademark of Adobe, it once was a 3D authoring software. (Released February 2004, discontinued December 2004!) I think another name for this program fits better anyway: Windows! (via)
