If I could be one of the six Beatles, I’d like to be John. There are many others feeling the same. They ARE John, George, Paul or Ringo. (No one’s trying to be Pete Best or Stu Sutcliff.) It’s a risky business, because sounding or looking ALMOST like someone else can be quite gaudy. Nevertheless: The world is full of tribute bands and it’s especially dense for Beatles tribute bands. And I found out: Most of them have a website!
Visit the Sgt. Peppers Only Dart Club Band. Their John Lennon even wrote a book about his ‘Celebrity Obsession Disorder’, as he calls it. You can buy the book too: Being John Lennon
Or visit The Baetles or The Beatels. The last got an impressing video of the rather unknown You know my Name online.
There are The Beats who really copy every single look and even every move. Frightening.
The Classic Beatles are from Ireland, The EggMen are from Austin, Texas: ‘Number one for FIVE years in a row in the “Best Cover Band” category in the Austin Chronicle Music Poll’.
The Fab Faux are from David Letterman and Conan O’Brien, and The FabFour are from Australia.
Other groups are The Sunkings, The Return, The Mockers, The Counterfeitbeatles and The Beatles Revival Band. Beatallica is a tribute band to the Beatles AND to Metallica and Ouch! is a tribute band to a tribute band, namely The Rutles.
I’m feeling dizzy…
