I’m going to let you hurt me
Featuring Sam Brown here isn’t broadcasting news. He’s running his website for at least six years now and is doing quite well. (Google page rank of seven!) He draws pictures that are based on titles visitors send him via eMail. This leads to titles like what do you want to eat for breakfast?, can you draw a guy at the beach standing next to some waves holding a surfboard , hi, can you please draw me a westhigland terrier dog? and any other dogs as well. and – as a matter of course – Jesus loves you! and wanna make some money?.
Though his drawings look naive and crude at first sight Sam is a secure, intuitive illustrator. I will not overstrain the image that a deeper, ironic and wise meaning is hidden behind the childlike, solid colored scribbles. This is surely the case but I think he just draws things he likes to draw: Dogs, robots, aliens, clouds, dictators, birds and evil. That’s part of the reason I really like his work:
