I never liked mannequins – as a very young boy I even was scared by them. Just to be sure it is not alive I touched one of these fiberglass dummies and suddenly its arm fell off. I was shockedd and screeched at my highest four-year-old-ultrasonic pitch which neither amused my mother nor anyone else in a range of two miles.
Rootstein is the world’s leading mannequin design company since London became the center of the fashion world in the early sixties. Even before Twiggy got famous Adel Rootstein chose the 14 year old to model for a series of six different mannequins. These elfish looking puppets became a huge success and Adel moved from London to Brooklyn. Thus Rootstein defines the look of display windows around the world. Now their new website premiered recently and its a nice browse. Even if I still feel uneasy near a mannequin.
