Adolf Hitler. Cowering in his bunker
Today, 62 years ago the July 20 plot to assasinate Adolf Hitler failed. It failed completely, as we all know, which more or less meant the end of German resistance. This is a welcome oppurtunity to translate a viral video, that is quite popular in Germany now. It is a commercial for the new book of Walter Moers “I cower in my bunker”.
Opening credits:
Berlin, April 30th, 1945
The world is burning, Germany lies in ruins and Japan is not doing so well either.
But one man keeps his chin up!
There is a light burning in the führer’s bunker…
On the toilet:
I cower in my bunker, in the middle of Berlin,
I have prussic acid capsules ready and enough gasoline.
The Luftwaffe is down the drain, and the navy and the army too,
Second World War is no fun anymore.
In front of the mirror:
Capitulation, no, that’s not my style.
I got 3 meter of ferroconcrete above me.
Capitulation, no, no, Blondie is still with me,
a I got a bottle of brandy.
Chorus of of the mirrored little Adolfs:
Adolf, you old nazi pig, you got to surrender finally!
Adolf, you old nazi pig!
Adolf, you old nazi pig, you got to surrender finally!
Adolf, you pig!
The bunker:
I’m at war with 53 countries,
and they do not bomb England, but Germany.
These allied bomber groups they bug me so,
because they do not just bomb but they blanket-bomb.
No one is listening to my orders, everyone does what he likes.
This Churchill is behind all this!
This hurts, this hurts, I am standing alone with Blondie
and a bottle of brandy.
Chorus of the Adolf rubberduckies:
Adolf, you old nazi pig, you got to surrender finally!
Adolf, you old nazi pig!
Adolf, you old nazi pig, you got to surrender finally!
Adolf, you pig!
After the duckies drowned:
Well, I never! It’s ok, Blondie. It’s ok, Blondie!
Yes – we will not capitulate. No, don’t be afraid!
Camera zooms away:
We maybe even win this war yet.
I think so.
I am confident, actually. In a sense.
Light’s off:
Hitler ranting about the scrolling speed of the credits, the fact they are in English and about the author, Walter Moers.
To make fun of the Führer is kind of a taboo in Germany. This is supposed to be an inappropriate way regarding the millions of dead soldiers, civilians, jews, sinti, roma and homosexuals.
I think it’s the best thing we can do. If pupils are searching the web to find material for their homework, I want them to find this article and not a Nazi site. And the melody is catchy, isn’t it: “Adolf, Du alte Nazisau…’. Reggae, ain’t it?
